Why Ghana could have 300 Constituencies by 2024

Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has implied that the Electoral Commission, EC, is trying to make 25 new voting public before the following general decisions.

Haruna said in a meeting on a nearby TV channel last week that the National Democratic Congress, NDC, planned to oppose the new voting public which will take the number of seats in Parliament to 300 from the momentum 275.

“We are getting signals that the Electoral Commission plans to make new extra voting demographics of around 25 with 11 of it in only one district of the country. We will oppose it,” he said on Accra-based Citi TV’s Point of View program.

“The EC is attempting to make extra voting demographics utilizing SALL and based on the thing I’m hearing they might need 11 of those seats to be in only one area of the country. With the other 12, 10, 15 parts among other crowded locales like the Greater Accra district and others.

He didn’t uncover the district that was expected to get the guard increment, but to add: “I’m saying that the NDC still up in the air to look for major discretionary changes in 2024 and we won’t acknowledge anything shy of those changes.”

In remarks backing the call by previous President John Dramani Mahama that allies should police casted a ballot at the surveying station, he said: “We won’t acknowledge the announcement of results at any provincial level. Let all surveying stations sway on the 50 in addition to one percent.

“For motivations behind decisions, Ghana is outlined into voting demographics that are the reason you have surveying stations so for Presidential outcomes, it isn’t in vain that the constitution says that the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission is the bringing officer back.

“So every voting demographic outcomes should be pronounced at the National level by the executive of the constituent commission and no local examination and it ought to be a calculation of surveying station results totaled into an entire,” he told Bernard Avle in a meeting on Citi TV.

“Ghana for the constituent object is separated into supporters that is the reason you have surveying stations so Presidential outcomes are not in vain that the constitution says that the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission is the returning officer so everybody electorate results should be announced at the National level by the executive of the appointive commission and no territorial grouping and it ought to be a calculation of surveying station results accumulated into the entire,” he told Bernard Avle in a meeting on Citi TV.

“The C I to be laid should remain in Parliament for 21 sitting days and come into power if 2/3s of Members of Parliament permits its excursion. It is after the section of the changed C I that the EC can ponder the holding of any political decision in that made Constituency,” the source informed.
